KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 (Bernama) -- The Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia has requested the government set up a RM2 billion fund to help Bumiputera entrepreneurs ride out the current economic slowdown.
Its deputy president, Datuk Muhammad Muhiyuddin Abdullah, said the fund could be the same as Entrepreneur Recovery Fund, which was handled by Bank Negara Malaysia during the previous economic crisis.
He said the Entrepreneur Recovery Fund helped entrepreneurs recover especially those who faced difficulties getting financial assistance from the banks.
He said this at the annual general meeting of the Kuala Lumpur Malay Chamber of Commerce here today.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Amirsham A. Aziz, officiated at the meeting.
Muhammad Muhiyuddin said the request was forwarded to Second Finance Minister, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, two months ago.
"It is hoped that the request would be accepted and will be part of the mini budget that would be tabled in Parliament next week," he said.
